BEIJING - Sinovel Wind Group Co, China's largest wind power generator manufacturer, announced Monday it will finish production of the country's first independently-developed 6-megawatt wind turbine in June.

The turbine would put Sinovel on a par with Germany's Enercon and Denmark's Vestas in producing the world's most powerful wind generator.

Vestas announced earlier this month that it would unveil its first 6-megawatt wind turbine by the end of March.

"Sinovel has the global intellectual property righs for its 6-megawatt wind turbine. The development of the product has given a boost to the upstream production of parts and components in China," said Tao Gang, senior vice president of Sinovel.

He said the turbine would give a boost to China's wind power industry, especially offshore wind power projects.

Tao said Sinovel had started development of a 10-megawatt wind turbine.

Thirty-four Sinovel-developed 3-megawatt offshore wind turbines at the Shanghai Donghai Bridge Offshore Wind Farm Project were connected to the grid in August last year. China's first national offshore wind power generation demonstration project, it is expected to generate enough power for 200,000 households a year.

Sinovel was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in January, setting a China record IPO price of 90 yuan ($13.6) per share. The company launched its self-developed 5-megawatt turbine in October last year.
